We all have goals as human beings. As a child you may want the latest toys, but as an adult you typically work hard to build and provide a future and a safe haven for those you care about. In today's day and age the level of uncertainty is at an all time high. From natural disasters to accidental mishaps your belongings and property can easily be wiped away from you. Habitat LA strives to come together to rebuild, from the ground up, in these situations. Below are a few tips on how to give back in order to help those in need.

1. GET YOUR HANDS DIRTY!

There are numerous charities that need your help from cleaning parks and water fronts to helping paint and build homes. Grab a paint brush and start getting dirty!

2. SHARE YOUR TIME

So many organizations are in need for your time. Habitat LA uses volunteering and education to put families on a new path — one where stability and self-reliance are actually obtainable, not merely aspirational. Pick a weekend and give what you can, it will make you feel so good!

3. SMILE! IT REALLY CAN MAKE SOMEONES DAY!

Smiling helps books your mood, increase happiness and lowers stress. Smile at someone, it can be life changing.

4. BECOME A MENTOR

Volunteer at a nonprofit organization where they provide free programs (arts and crafts, tutoring, mentoring, and more) to children living with different life challenges and their families.  Join a program that helps brighten up kids' lives each day. After school care, YMCA, Big Brother / Big Sister. Changing a child's life can be the most rewarding thing you will ever do!

5. DONATE

You can donate things like furniture and appliances; Habitat LA also sells these items to raise funds to help build homes.  Whether its a monetary donation or your old belongings, any action you show pays forward to those who don't have much and could use.  All that goes a long way and benefit those in need.
